Law of Attraction

The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts: therefore, guard accordingly, and take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature.

Marcus Aurelius / Roman emperor, philosopher, writer / 121–180

The law of attraction in the realm of thought and emotion is defined as “like attracts like.” Whether you’re aware of it or not, the way in which you implement this principle serves as a guiding force in your life. Thought is a subtle form of energy that has a great influence on your existence, and it can be conscious or subconscious. Conscious thought is relatively easy to identify and control; however, subconscious thought is more elusive. Nevertheless, subconscious thought can be very powerful, so it’s important that you realize how it works. When you react negatively to a situation, you’re actually allowing yourself to respond in such a detrimental way. Your subconscious may be in control, but in that case, you’ve either conditioned yourself or you’ve been conditioned by someone or something else to respond that way primarily due to fear. That can be unfortunate because you may find yourself acting in an undesirable manner based solely on conditioning. The good news is that you can change that behavior over time. When you find yourself in such a predicament, you can leverage various techniques to focus your mind, increase your awareness, and take steps to enhance your situation. If you practice such an approach regularly, then you can reduce or even eliminate negative reactions due to conditioning.

Scientists have proven that thought is energy. As such, it seems evident that a positive attitude would be a formidable tool in forging one’s success or tackling challenges in life, and in fact, scientists, psychologists, and medical doctors have demonstrated that as well. A positive attitude has proven to be extremely valuable for people faced with stress or adversity. Some of the most telling studies are those that have been conducted in the area of health, showing that a positive attitude can actually strengthen the immune system and accelerate recovery when ill. That is serious power. Another important reason to think positively is that emotions naturally follow thought, so if you want to feel better, then you typically have to start by thinking more optimistically. That’s not easy to do on a consistent basis, particularly when life presents difficulty, but if you persist, then you will prevail.

One concept that can help ease your mind in a difficult situation is to invoke the phrases “This too shall pass” or “This is now but not forever.” Remind yourself of this when challenged. Also, when negative emotions arise within you, think positively and act positively, and soon you will feel better. For example, the next time you’re feeling sad, focus your mind on things that make you happy, such as what you have to be grateful for, having the things you want, or spending time with people you love. Then adjust your body so that it’s acting positively and confidently by smiling, breathing deeply, and improving your posture. Persevere with these positive thoughts and actions and your emotions are sure to follow. It’s OK to experience and express all your emotions, including the negative ones. In fact, it’s healthy to do so as opposed to keeping them bottled up inside, but once you’ve expressed a negative emotion, it’s vital to let it go and be positive. What you focus on and feel is what you inevitably draw into your life. If you cling to fear or negativity, then that’s what you will attract, but if you concentrate on the positive, then your experiences will improve. To excel, appreciate what you have, get excited about the opportunity for more, and then manifest your desires through positive thoughts, emotions, and actions.
