The Art of Reality

Reality can be beaten with enough imagination.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens a.k.a. Mark Twain / author, humorist / 1835–1910

Reality is often defined as your current state of being that you perceive as true or actual. Your state of being is comprised of who you are presently as an individual, including your overall condition, mind-set, and level of awareness, and it’s influenced by your current situation, events that occur, and what you choose to do. What you perceive as true or actual is typically a combination of fact, interpretation, and outlook. More often than not, interpretation and outlook play a greater role than fact in both your quality of life and your ability to excel. Also, because change and the progression of time are both constants in life, your reality is continuously being defined by events, perceptions, and your action or inaction. Your reality is also molded by your situation, including what you think of it and how you feel about it, which in turn is guided by your mind-set, effort, and adaptation to fear. As you can see, we play a tremendous role in shaping our own realities.

To improve your reality and increase your level of success, you can expand your knowledge and base your thoughts and actions on positive principles, such as awareness, kindness, and valor, for example. There is also an assortment of strategies available that can help you improve your situation, including nutrition, physical activity, goal setting, meditation, and visualization, among others. If you commit a small amount of effort to such practices on a regular basis, then your life will improve dramatically over time. Reality can be considered a work of art that is constantly in progress, shaped by your situation and events and further defined by both your mind-set and your actions from moment to moment. In that sense, life can be likened to a canvas, and you are the artist having a set of paints and brushes with which to work. What painting you choose to create on that canvas of life is up to you. Furthermore, no matter what’s occurred in the past, you can essentially begin anew at any point in time in order to create a more meaningful and positive work of art that becomes your reality.

How do you create an amazing reality? Begin by deciding what you want and choose to make it so. Then focus on that, visualize it, and feel the joy it would bring you in order to help draw it into your life. Next, come to understand fear, recognize it when it arises in its various forms, and work to manage it accordingly so that you remove the obstacles it otherwise presents. Finally, remain aware of what transpires within you and around you at all times, and consistently act and react in a positive manner. To accomplish such things, you can implement the natural abilities that you have, which will allow you to hone your focus and excel at whatever it is you do. These skills that you possess are extremely powerful when put to use in a concentrated manner, and they include the following:

  • Tactics                      Relaxation, problem solving, time management

  • Resolve                    Valor, gratitude, resilience

  • Unselfishness           Tenderness, loving-kindness, compassion

  • Elasticity                   Patience, cooperation, flexibility

  • Presence                  Awareness, concentration, take

  • Objectivity                 Tolerance, acceptance, detachment

  • Vision                        Humor, optimism, empathy

You can leverage the acronym of a TRUE POV to help you remember your skills that comprise this sound point of view, which you can use to your advantage from moment to moment. You have remarkable potential given these natural abilities, but the choice to exercise them in order to focus your attention, improve your reality, and attain what you desire is yours alone. Frequent practice of such principles will lead to proficiency, which in turn will invariably yield results. In addition, you can develop strategies to help complement your progress while coping with the fear and adversity that naturally arise throughout life. Finally, remember to accept that you are responsible for your own success; that belief will remove the majority of limitations that might otherwise hold you back.
